Bomarx, has started a public safety campaign and movement to help reduce assaults and attacks on comedians while performing in the workplace. Our movement will remind the public that when comedians are performing and telling jokes, it's for entertainment purposes only and not intended to embarrass, verbally abuse or harm those who attend or view their performances.
According to a May 17, 2022 article by Mr. Eric Spitznaget of the New York Post, more comedians are attacked on stage like Mr. Chris Rock and Mr. Dave Chappelle. In fact on March 23, 2022 three days before Mr. Rock was slapped at the Oscars, standup comedian Mr. Sampson McCormick was punched in the face while performing at the Win-River Resort & Casino in Redding, California. This is a venue he headlined many times over the last decade. Comedians across the country say violence from audience members is an increasing problem.
Mr. Curtis Shaw Flagg, 37, president of The Laugh Factory in Chicago, told The Post " he's seen an alarming uptick in incidents over the past year, as people feel increasingly emboldened to lash out if a comic displeases them." Not long ago, we had a patron stand up in the middle of a performance and say, 'I will be outside waiting for you, I'm going to kill you,' Flagg said. "After the show, we did a sweep of the outside and there was no sign of the guy, and the comic left unharmed. But nobody felt safer."
So is it open season on comedians anytime or anywhere? How many violent attacks go unreported? Our mission is to seek the help of millions of concerned comedians/entertainers, and people everywhere who support public safety in the workplace.
Please go to our "Contact Us" page and leave your contact information and we will provide you with more info about how you can help keep our comedians safe.
